It allows files of up to 500mb and doesn't require registration.

Guess that they still record your IP for identification/tracing purposes.

Am a bit worried re posting files that may be copyrighted and may result in the variousCopyright/DRM orgs hounding us.

thanks for the info. I'll keep it in mind if I have proplems dealing with video inlinux.Haven't used Windows XP for 7 months.

I have Kubuntu installed on 4 PCs and 1 Laptop on my home network and have been able toperform all required functions without using Windows.

Sometimes it's just a matter of finding the correct program.

Why don't you try a Linux LiveCD such as Mepis or Kubuntu?

That's how I started and I sometimes still use a LiveCD for security while surfing theWeb.

I am afraid that i am win32, I'd love to be linux but its to comprimising for getting ajob done
1. Hunt down DVDShrink. use it.. that should half the size of the dvd.
2.Hunt down a free app called "AUTO GK" or "AUTO GORDIAN KNOT",this will allow you to compress down to xvid. with some options.
3. Take a look about for something called WOMBLE MPEG VIDEO WIZARD. This will let you loada ripped and shrunk mpeg and let you cut it up as well as do basic edits, render it out toa mpeg fast. Then use "AUTO GK"

I agree, but with rapidshare having 100m file size limits its a problem to post full resDVD.

I'd already figured out what to do once I discovered that what was really needed was toconvert the DVD .vob files to vcd xvid .avi files.

I used Acidrip to do this and most files come in at under 100mb per converted .vob.

I am ripping a DVD of about 2gb which has 16 scenes ( each a .vob file). I can rip theseto mpg, avi etc without problem but am doing so at full DVD resolution.Most of the 16files are over 300mb and I'd rather not split them, 16 files is enough.

I'd like to be able to reduce the resolution to 368 x ??? and hopefully therby reduce thefile sizes.

Advice on how to compress these down to good divx would be appreciated, especially if itapplies to Linux.

Why are you not just spliting the files using winrar or zip...?

IF you want to know how to and how to compress these down to good divx, ask I can help.

I see that Filefactory only has 50mb limit for vids but 300mb for files. Guess thatFilefactoty and archived (zip, bz2, tar etc) is way to go.

I'm usinh Kubuntu 6.06 (linux) and can rip DVD .vobs to mpg with Acidrip and can editwith Avidemux.

How do I reduce the file resolution and file size so that I can post to Rapidshare withits 100mb file size limit?

Just cutting the mpgs into 100mb clips would only five about 3 minutes viewing per clip atfull DVD resolution.

Any advice/info/links appreciated.
